Joseph on the Question of Assisted Suicide

Excerpt from the trance demonstration evening on 12th August 2009

Cameron Collinge: I would like to ask a question, please. There is a lot of interest in the media at the moment about assisted suicide and I was wondering about the spiritual side of that - whether it was a good thing or a bad thing for somebody to end their own life or be assisted to end their own life?

Joseph: A very delicate question from your point of view and a very delicate question from the mind's point of view ...but not a delicate question from the heart's point of view. In all areas (such as this one) you have to engage the heart; you have to see what your heart-mind is saying to you. When you incarnate upon the Earth plane you have a set number of days that are allocated to you with your permission, with your agreement, if everything goes according to plan. And there is a set number of days because within that set number of days you have the opportunity to learn the most versus being 'attacked' by the Field. In other words there is a rich and deep calculation that goes on to ensure that you are here not a moment longer than you should be here and yet you are given the opportunity day by day to learn, to get the most out of that time.

Suicide of course ends the physical - it terminates the voyage or the journey on this level. But unfortunately (and this is what people do not understand) it does not terminate the karma, it does not terminate the journey on a spiritual level. And so you find that spirits are moving onwards but with nowhere to go because the Earth plane is still pulling at them. They are still encapsulated by the rays from the Earth plane, by the rays from the Field that are supposed to hold them here for a certain amount of time. So, you have stories in religion of people who have committed suicide finding themselves in 'limbo' and, yes, for some of them they do. It is only the stronger spirits, it is only the more evolved spirits that learn to dis-entangle themselves from the Earth plane and return to a 'waiting station' where they can review the effects of having terminated the physical existence early.

For those who are not so evolved (and by evolved I mean mentally aware from the spirit-heart) there are problems. They find themselves pulled by the Earth plane; they find themselves pulled by the spiritual plane and they need a great deal of counselling - counselling without judgment - to get them away from that 'parcel' of energy that they agreed to be encapsulated by before they incarnated.

My personal view on suicide is that it should not take place.

Indeed one of Michael's other guides committed suicide [ref. to Silver Star]. Being an evolved spirit, he managed to escape the pull of the Earth plane but still has to visit the Earth plane at times - not to 'make amends' - but to reconcile with his heart, with his spirit, the fact that he should have been here longer. You see you only see the physical; you see the suffering; you see the pain and you say: 'I have to terminate that pain, I am being compassionate.' Are you? No! Because that pain is meant to be, is a result of choices by the spirit and those who have interacted by the spirit in order that the spirit may learn. And it seems cruel; it seems 'heart-less' that a spirit can be damaged in this way. But the spirit itself is not damaged; it is only the material form that is damaged, it is only the material form that is undergoing certain cause and effect circumstances, so that the spirit within it linked to it may learn.

So, in my opinion suicide should not take place because of the after-effects, because of the problems that occur as a result of a soul taking its own life. And I want to tell you all something: eventually you each 'take your own life' but within the prescribed time. Your spirit knows that it has to leave - the physical does not but the spirit knows! And so you take your own life (just as you took your own life into the Earth plane) but at the end of a prescribed period of time and this is the important thing when considering suicides: within a prescribed period of time that you agreed to.

How do you know the effects of your suffering on someone else? How do you not know that because of that suffering someone else is learning, someone else is evolving? How do you know that as a result of your suffering, you are elevating yourself as a spirit? And the suffering is illusion - the nerve endings tell you otherwise but the nerve endings are illusion.

We have to re-arrange our means of healing people, our means of making people comfortable, so that even the 'terminally ill', even those who are suffering to a great extent, can be bathed in Light, can be bathed in peace, so that their suffering ends but their existence continues until the date when they are due (according to the covenant they have made with God) to return to the spirit worlds from whence they came. Does that answer your question?

Cameron: Yes, thank you very much.
